As you might already know, there are several steps you’ll need to take if you’re hoping to stay healthy and strong. For example, you might know that you should brush and floss your teeth, but would you be surprised to learn that there are several other factors that you’ll need to consider?

While there are several things you should do, it’s also important that you consider your unique circumstances before forming a dental health regimen. For example, certain medications can reduce the amount of saliva your mouth produces. Similarly, those with asthma often breathe through their mouth when they sleep, which can also cause dry mouth. If you have dry mouth, you’ll actually be more susceptible to cavities. To account for these types of issues, we recommend talking to our dentist before deciding how you can keep your mouth clean.

Similarly, there are a few things you should avoid doing, such as using tobacco and eating too many sugary foods.  If you smoke, you could have yellowing teeth and frequent bad breath and sugary foods can wear down your enamel.

Finally, please remember that you should examine your teeth regularly on your own. While we suggest visiting our team twice a year, you’ll have more opportunity to recognize changes in your teeth from home. For instance, you might notice swollen gums, a chipped or discolored tooth, or an unusual sore on your mouth. If you spot any of these issues, please contact our team as soon as possible.
